Instructions on using Our Site

Using our site is very simple. Follow this guide to learn about how to use this site and get the most out of your experience here, and to maximise your chances to find your perfect match or soulmate.

Your eCupid Account

In order to be able to view and interact with other members of this site, you need to register an account. This is a straight forward process starting by clicking or tapping any of the “Register Now” buttons or links found on pages on the site or even the Register link in the menu bar at the top of every page on the site. you can click this link to Register Now, right here

The registration will form the basis of your profile. Some of the questions asked will be things like display name, email address, date of birth (only used to calculate your age. Your actual birthdate does not display anywhere on the site), gender, gender you are looking for, Country, Region, Sexual Orientation for inclusivity and your spoken language/s if you speak more than 1 language. You will be asked to agree to our terms and conditions. All very basic questions.

Once you have filled in the form, you will see the “Submit” button will become clickable and you can submit the form.

Submitting the form will send an activation email to the email address you filled in the email field of the form. If you filled in the wrong email address or misspelled the email address, you will not receive an activation code and your account will not be activated. In this instance, you may contact us with an explanation of what happened and we may be able to edit the email and send you the activation link. If this isn’t an option, your only recourse is to re-register your account.

Editing Your Profile

Once you have an account set up and activated, it’s a good time to log in and add some more information to your profile to help prospective partners find you. You can do this at any time by going to your own profile and selecting edit on the tabs.

You can change the default avatar to your own photo. Each time you log in, you will be taken to your own profile page. If you have navigated away from your profile, clicking your username at the top of the page will bring you back to your own profile.

We have provided a profile helper to help you complete your profile. Simply click the links in the profile helper to add or edit your profile photo, background image or complete your profile fields. Once you have achieved 100% completion of your profile, the helper will disappear. You can still change your photo, background and profile fields which I will explain below.

Changing Your Profile Photo

To change your photo, click the Photo Image link in the helper and follow the prompts to upload or choose a profile image.

If the helper is no longer visible, you can simply click on the image to change or delete the profile image. You can delete or change this image whenever you want.

Changing Your Cover Image

The cover image is the background that sits behind the profile image. If the helper is visible, click the Cover Photo link and follow the prompts to upload or choose an appropriate image for your cover image.

If the helper is not visible, you can change the cover image by hovering the mouse over the cover photo area and you will see a camera appear on the left side of the cover area. Clicking the camera will give you the options to change the cover photo or delete it as you need. You can update the cover image as often as you like.

Adding More Information To Your Profile

If the helper is visible, you can select the Profile Fields link and this will take you to the edit page where the different sections are under the buttons at the top of the page there. Select each of the buttons and fill in the fields there, or add your own text to make it easier for potential candidates to get a better idea of who you are. Don’t forget to click the save changes button at the bottom of each section.

If the helper isn’t visible and you want to add or edit your information, you can still do this while you are in your profile page and selecting “Profile” in the left column and then selecting the “Edit” tab at the top of the middle section. This will show the buttons and selecting the buttons will show the fields in that section to add or edit the information there. Click “Save” at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Some of the elements have been set to a default, so check these to make sure that the defaults match your preferences.

Members

Once you become a member, you can then view all of the member’s profiles at any time by clicking the Members menu link at the top of the site pages.

Change Display order of Member listing

On the Members page, you can change their display order by selecting the drop-down list to the right of screen by Last active, Newest registered or display them alphabetically.

Using the Search Form to Find Members

You can search for members by any of the profile fields ie. Man/Woman, Age range or Country. The search fields on the home page and the members page are optional so you don’t have to fill in all of the fields to get matches.

Eg. If you are simply looking for Men, select Men and search will return all men that are registered. Another example would be Men between the ages of 40 and 50 will display all men who are listed as aged between 40 & 50, this year.

The search works on the date of birth fields so if a member is currently 39 and their birthday is tomorrow, a search of members 40 to 50 will not display this member today, but doing the same search tomorrow, that member will now be included.

Viewing a members Profile

You can view any members profile by clicking on the members image or by clicking the View Profile button. The buttons to the right of the profile image are self explanatory and will send a friend request, public or private messages.

If you have sent a friend request, you can cancel this by finding the member and selecting the cancel friendship button.

Clicking on the profile image in the members page will show the members profile. This will also show a compatibility rating at the top right of the page and is based on the information you have in your own profile compared with the information in the member’s profile. You can have a look at each of the profile groups to find out more information about this member. You can add the member as a friend while viewing their profile. You can message the member as well and start up a conversation.

Blocking and Reporting a Member

If you need to, you can block a member from seeing your profile or interacting with you by clicking the Block button at the very bottom of each profile in the members listing, or you can visit their profile and you will see Block next to their profile image at the top of their profile page.

To unblock the member, you can go to your own profile and click Profile > Settings and you will see “Blocked Members.” Click this and you will see a list of blocked members if you have blocked more than one. Select the one you want to unblock and this member will be able to see your profile and interact with you again.

Report a Member

When visiting the member’s profile, you will note there is a Report button next to the profile image at the top of the page. This is for reporting the member to the administrators of the site.

Please note that Reporting a member is vastly different from Blocking them. Block means that you no longer see the members profile and they cannot see yours. You cannot search for the blocked member and they cannot search for your profile. The member ceases to exist for you and you no longer exist to the blocked member.

If you believe that the member is behaving inappropriately or illegally on the site, clicking the report button will log a report for the administrators to follow up. The outcome of this report may result in a warning to the member or in severe cases may result in suspension of the members account with eCupid.

To report a member, go to the profile in question and select the “Report Button”, fill in the report form giving as much information as possible and click the Send button. We take member reports very seriously and we will look into the matter as soon as possible, and update you on the outcome of the report. Please be aware if any reportable incidents occur outside of our site, we will not be able assess any wrongdoings as there would be no evidence. This is why we stress that you remain on our site and interact here as we can see clearly any evidence and act appropriately.

Cancelling Your Membership

You may cancel your membership at any time by clicking on “Member Cancel” on the main menu or you can use this Member Cancel link

You will be taken to the membership cancel page where you will shown a message that tells you that cancelling the membership is permanent and cannot be reversed. Below the message at the top of the page is a table that shows your membership level. On the right hand side of the page is a simple Cancel link. Clicking the link will give you one more chance to change your mind by showing 2 buttons, “Yes, Cancel this membership” or “No, keep this membership” Clicking the Yes button will terminate your membership as well as delete any data that your membership had generated while you were a member. This includes any data in your profile forms, photos, messages, contacts and anything else that may be in your profile account

You will no longer be able to view member profiles even if you haven’t logged out. To reinstate your membership, simply follow the “Your eCupid Account” instruction above to rejoin for free.

Personal Data Request.

You can request an export of your personal data that we currently have stored on our servers by going into your profile and selecting Settings > Export Data to initiate a request to receive a copy your data we have stored.

Creating Groups and Forums

Creating an interest group

Members can create groups and forums that interest them. To create a new group, go to your profile and select Groups from the left column. You will then see the Create tab at the top of the page. Click Create and follow the prompts to create your group.

You can also invite other members to your groups by clicking Invitations in the left column and select the Send Invites tab at the top of the page. Add the email address of the person you want to invite, add a message if you want to and click send.

Forums

Forums are created when a user creates a new group. In the setting up the new group, you will be asked if you want to set up a forum for the group or not. Answering yes will set up a forum which allows other group users to add comments to the forum.
